Valentina, a Ukrainian woman, has always wanted children but has struggled to conceive. In order to have a chance to have children, she decided to seek aid from a family planning clinic when she was 60 years old.
When she discovered she was having her first child in 2010, she had enough money saved for the surgery. Everyone was shocked when, in 2011, Valentina gave birth to a healthy baby girl named Anna-Maria.
Despite the congratulations and media attention, Valentina made the decision to keep her and her daughter’s lives private and avoided interviews and visitors.
Valentina spoke in her first interview four years later about the challenges she faced as a result of resentment and criticism from others. Anna-Maria, who is now nine years old, is a bright and compassionate child who supports her mother and does well in school despite the obstacles.
What are your thoughts on having kids later in life?
