A 12-year-old girl from South Carolina named Ansley Burns stunned the judges on *America’s Got Talent* with her moving performance of a beloved Aretha Franklin song.
In a teaser for Tuesday’s performance, the seventh-grader, who regularly sings in her school choir, chose to play Franklin’s “Think.”
Halfway through her performance, head judge Simon Cowell cut her off because he felt the backing track didn’t suit her voice.
When Simon suggested that Ansley try singing the song a cappella instead, she initially felt uneasy.
Simon was kind enough to fetch her a cup of water, and she found the strength to sing without accompaniment with the support of the judges and crowd.
Her solo performance amazed the judges, as Julianne Hough and Gabrielle Union arose and cheered.
Since then, millions of people have watched the video on YouTube, and many of them have praised Ansley’s singing ability, perseverance, and charming personality.
Many observers felt that Simon’s decision improved her performance and allowed her voice to truly shine.
