The plane made an emergency landing a short while after the flight attendant saw a 10-year-old youngster making an odd sign with his fingers
The morning flight from Munich to Barcelona was a routine one. When Anna, a flight attendant, went down the aisle between the rows to make sure everyone had buckled up, the sun had just begun to rise. Until the boy in the third row by the window caught her eye, everything was going as planned.
He was one of those inconspicuous kids who strive to blend in. He appeared to be 10 or eleven years old. A sturdy-looking man in his forties sat next to him. His hand touched the boy’s shoulder lightly while resting on the armrest. The man’s eyes were sharp and icy.
Anna was about to pass out when she saw the youngster, who was hardly visible, making an odd motion with his fingers. She didn’t pay much attention at first; perhaps he was joking. However, the plane made an emergency landing a short while later, and all of the passengers were taken out
The flight attendant was troubled by something in the boy’s eyes: he was frantic and making a silent cry for assistance.
The youngster made the same gesture later, but this time with desperation, as the father stood up and walked to the bathroom. He had fear in his eyes.
Anna paused. That sign seemed familiar to her. She was taught how to use hand signals that kids in danger can use. That sign was an appeal for assistance.
Without revealing anything, she came over and gave him a glass of apple juice while grinning.
I take it that this is your favorite?
With shaky hands, the boy accepted the glass after giving a mute nod. He glanced around once again, almost terrified that the stranger would return.
The man gave Anna a dubious look as he came back. The air conditioner was effective, but his brow was glistening with perspiration. As soon as he sat down, he glanced at the youngster and then at his phone.
Anna’s heart was pounding.
Through a colleague, she discreetly delivered a message to the pilots that read, “Possible kidnapping.” Row 3A. A child making a help signal. A man acting strangely. Call the police and emergency landing at the airport.
“We must make an unscheduled landing in Geneva due to a technical malfunction,” the captain declared ten minutes later.
The man grew anxious. He requested to use the restroom once more. However, the staff had told them that two security guards were already waiting in the aisle.
He yelled as they escorted him outside:
You’re not getting it! My son is this! I have documents!
However, the documents were fraudulent.
A child safety officer and police were already waiting for the boy below. The youngster shook his head and started crying when they softly inquired if he knew the man.
It was then discovered that he had been abducted from another nation weeks prior. No one anticipated finding him aboard the plane, despite the search being led by Interpol and local officials.
